Details

PolarKote® is uniquely formulated, which can be made available in two formats, either in solid or liquid/spray-on form. Depending on which version you use, the material can either be machined or painted on, if desired, making the application of PolarKote a flexible option for your particular purpose. Our services range from the coating of customer-supplied parts to the design, fabrication, testing and calibration of complete components.

PolarKote is a white, opaque, diffused material with a reflectance of more than 99% over the visible spectrum from ultra violet to near infrared with highly lambertian characteristics. PolarKote is thermally stable to approximately 100 degrees Celsius for the Paint version and 200 degrees Celsius for the Solid version. The uniform light source serves as a source of radiation that is neither collimated, focused nor restricted to a divergent cone. The radiation is diffusely emitted from the exit port plane over an entire 180 degrees.

Solid Form - This material is 99% reflective.

• It can be machined or molded into just about any shape or size.
• Virtually indestructible
• Can be machined or molded into just about any shape or size
• Will not corrode in acetone or salt water
• Not affected by UV Can be used in environments up to 200 degrees Celsius

Consumer Grade Spray-on Polar Kote - This material is over 95% reflective and can be purchased from us right off this site.  It is available in 1 Gallon cans.  See application method download above.

Industrial Grade Spray-on Polar Kote - Send us your parts and we will coat them with the industrial grade spray-on version of our reflective material. We can coat just about any type of surface. Although not as durable as the solid version, the spray-on version still has 99% reflective properties and can handle temperatures up to 100 degrees Celsius.

Potential Applications:

• Diffuse illumination over an extended area
• Backlight Assemblies
• Integrating spheres
• Laser cavities
• Calibration targets
• Remote sensing
• Back panel display lighting
• Digital imaging
• Scientific, film, video and photographic applications

Why is PolarKote so reflective?

The answer lies in the microporous structure of this proprietary material. Light reflects and refracts from fibril to fibril within this structure. This is the same reason snow reflects light whereas water does not. The microporous structure, optimized for maximum reflectance, is made from a durable, non-yellowing compound.

Why is high reflectance important?

In a typical application, every time a ray of light reflects, some light energy is lost. If an optical design causes more than one reflection to occur, a poor reflector can absorb a significant amount of total energy. This is why a small difference in reflectance can make a big difference in total light output.
